We Do Level 2 Chimney Inspections

Before you sign the contract for your house, you need to schedule a professional home inspector to ensure your home is safe. The home inspector thoroughly check the foundation, the electrical and plumbing systems, and every other aspect of the home, except the chimney. To get a report of your chimney, you will need to schedule a Level 2 chimney inspection with our trained and experienced technicians at Champs Chimney Service.

For over 17 years, we have been providing all three levels of chimney inspections. We also offer other professional chimney maintenance, repair, and installation services to the Albany area. We would like to tell you more about “real estate” chimney inspections and what you can expect from us.

What is a Level 2 chimney inspection?

A few decades ago, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) came up with three levels of inspections to provide the same standards for all chimney professionals. The most basic Level 1 inspection is typically comes with a professional chimney sweep service. However, if you are buying or selling a home, you will need a Level 2 inspection. You will also need this inspection after changes have been made to your system, or after an operational malfunction or external event such as a tornado. If we suspect that a serious hazard exists, we will recommend a Level 3 inspection. In a level 3 inspection, we need to remove certain components such as the chimney crown, to diagnose and get to the root of your problem.

What can I expect from a Level 2 chimney inspection from Champs Chimney Service?

When we arrive at your home, we will begin the inspection process by checking the interior and the exterior of the chimney. We will look for potential problems such as flue blockages, damaged liners, and missing bricks and mortar joints. These all could cause the chimney to be unsafe to use. We will examine the readily accessible parts of the chimney’s interior and exterior and the attic, basement, and crawl space. A level 2 inspection is recorded with a special camera system. If we find a problem, you will have photographic evidence to give to your realtor and home insurance agent. You will also get a written report on the condition of the chimney.
